“BNP secures sole victory in five Dhaka constituencies”

In a decisive outcome of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) claimed victory in all five constituencies of Dhaka district. The results were officially announced on Thursday by the Returning Officer and District Commissioner of Dhaka, Md. Rezaul Karim.

The BNP, contesting under its iconic “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol, secured sweeping wins across the capital’s constituencies, demonstrating a significant lead over rival parties. Across Dhaka, the nearest challengers were predominantly from Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), yet none were able to bridge the substantial vote gaps.

In Dhaka-1, Khondakar Abu Ashfaq defeated Jamaat-e-Islami’s Md. Nazrul Islam by 61,159 votes, marking a significant endorsement from the electorate.

Other notable victories include Md. Amanullah Aman in Dhaka-2, who secured 163,793 votes, nearly double that of his nearest rival, Colonel (Retd.) Abdul Haque of Jamaat-e-Islami. In Dhaka-3, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy triumphed with 98,785 votes, establishing a solid lead over Md. Shahinur Islam of Jamaat-e-Islami. Meanwhile, Md. Tamiz Uddin in Dhaka-20 amassed 162,504 votes, defeating Nabila Tasnim of NCP by over 100,000 votes.

Political analysts have described this outcome as a reaffirmation of BNP’s strong urban support base in Dhaka, highlighting voter preference for the party’s platform and candidates. The clean sweep across all five constituencies signals a significant shift in the district’s political landscape ahead of the new parliamentary term.

The results are expected to influence the dynamics of policy-making and opposition politics in the upcoming sessions of the national parliament, reflecting voter confidence in BNP leadership and its legislative agenda.
