Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered a significant cache of foreign and locally manufactured weapons during a targeted operation in Daulatpur Upazila of Kushtia district. The operation forms part of heightened security measures along the border ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
According to a press release issued at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony, Commanding Officer of the Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB), confirmed that the operation took place at approximately 1:30 am on Tuesday in the Poultry Mor Char area of Daulatpur. The location is around 4.5 kilometres from the BGB base camp deployed on election duty and approximately four kilometres inside the zero line of the international border.
The operation was launched based on confidential intelligence that indicated suspicious activity in the border region, historically vulnerable to arms smuggling and cross-border trafficking. A specialised patrol team from 47 BGB was dispatched to the site. Officials highlighted the use of drone-mounted surveillance cameras and artificial intelligence-assisted analysis technology to accurately locate and map the suspicious site before conducting the recovery operation.
The recovered weapons and equipment, found abandoned at the scene, included one foreign pistol, one magazine, three rounds of ammunition, one locally made shooter gun, and a large quantity of domestic sharp weapons.
Recovered Items:
| Item | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Foreign pistol | 1 |
| Magazine | 1 |
| Ammunition (rounds) | 3 |
| Locally made shooter gun | 1 |
| Large machetes | 2 |
| Small machetes | 5 |
| Sickles | 5 |
| Chopper | 1 |
| Knife | 1 |
| Total sharp domestic weapons | 14 |
No individuals were apprehended during the operation. The seized weapons and ammunition are being handed over to Daulatpur Police Station, and preparations are underway to file a formal case.
BGB officials noted that security and surveillance along the border have been significantly intensified since the announcement of the election schedule on 11 December. Since that date, the Kushtia Battalion has arrested 13 suspects and recovered a total of eight foreign pistols, two locally made shooter guns, 12 magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition, and 14 domestic sharp weapons.
Cumulative Seizures Since 11 December:
| Category | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Foreign pistols | 8 |
| Locally made shooter guns | 2 |
| Magazines | 12 |
| Ammunition (rounds) | 16 |
| Sharp domestic weapons | 14 |
| Arrests | 13 |
Officials confirmed that regular patrols, temporary checkpoints, and technology-driven monitoring systems are being deployed along vulnerable border stretches to prevent smuggling, illegal arms supply, and potential sabotage during the election period. Authorities emphasised that such operations will continue to maintain law and order in frontier areas and curb the proliferation of illicit weapons.
