Bride Severely Injured in Motorcycle Mishap

A post-wedding outing turned into a life-threatening situation for a young bride in Chattogram’s Rangunia Upazila. Ipsana Begum, just 20 years old, was accompanying her husband Mohammad Sanaullah on a motorcycle to the picturesque Kaptai region when her borocha, or traditional scarf, became entangled in the rear wheel.

The sudden entanglement caused both riders to lose control, sending them tumbling onto the road. Ipsana suffered severe injuries and was immediately taken to the local Upazila Health Complex by nearby residents. Recognising the seriousness of her condition, medical professionals referred her to Chattogram Medical College Hospital before she was moved to a private hospital for critical care. She is currently in the intensive care unit, fighting for her life.

Mohammad Sanaullah, her 26-year-old husband, also sustained injuries but is reportedly in a stable condition. Sources close to the family revealed that Sanaullah, who works abroad in Saudi Arabia, had accompanied his bride on what was supposed to be a joyful post-wedding excursion. Tragically, the day of celebration turned into one of despair.

The couple hails from nearby villages in Rangunia Upazila: Ipsana from Nischintapur, Hosnabad Union, and Sanaullah from Ward 8, Parua Union. The incident occurred in the Harin Gate area of Syed Bazar, Rangunia, just kilometres from their respective homes. Relatives described the situation as devastating, noting that the accident happened only a day after their wedding.

Police sources confirmed that the accident was caused by the entanglement of Ipsana’s scarf with the motorcycle wheel. Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohammad Belayat Hossain said the couple was heading to Kaptai for a post-wedding trip when the mishap occurred. Both victims are receiving medical attention at a private hospital in Chattogram.

The incident has highlighted the importance of road safety, particularly when travelling with traditional attire that could pose a risk on motorcycles. Families and friends of the couple have expressed deep shock, while local authorities are reminding residents to take extra precautions when riding two-wheelers.

This unfortunate accident serves as a grim reminder that even short journeys can carry unexpected dangers, and care must be taken to ensure the safety of passengers, especially newlyweds enjoying their first days together.
