In a horrifying incident early on Monday morning, 40-year-old Akhtar Hossain, son of Chand Ali Molla, was subjected to a brutal attack in the Gallamari area of Khulna city, resulting in the severing of the tendons in both his hands. Akhtar, who works at a local hotel, was quickly rescued from the scene and admitted to the Orthopaedics Department of Khulna Medical College Hospital.
According to police reports and accounts from the victim, the assault occurred in the Darogor Vita area of Batiaghata. Akhtar was allegedly lured to a secluded location by his nephew, Shahed, along with four to five other acquaintances. There, four assailants reportedly forced him to the ground and, using sharp weapons, inflicted severe injuries, cutting the tendons in both of his hands.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Akhtar Hossain described the attack: “Before I could even understand what was happening, they assaulted me. Neighbours arrived running after hearing my screams, which caused the attackers to flee.”
Orthopaedic specialist Dr Bappa Raj of Khulna Medical College Hospital confirmed the severity of the injuries. “Both tendons have been critically severed, with the left hand being particularly concerning. We have recommended that he be transferred to a specialised hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment,” he stated.
Batiaghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Khondokar Hafizur Rahman, verified the incident and assured that the investigation is ongoing. “The attackers are known to the victim.
