Nasiruddin Patwari, the candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency, became the victim of an unexpected and disruptive incident on Tuesday afternoon. During a pitha festival held at Habibullah Bahar College, multiple eggs were thrown at him, creating a tense situation. The incident was confirmed by Mahabub Alam, head of the Nationalist Congress Party’s electoral media subcommittee.
According to sources, Patwari had been invited to the college as a guest of honour. However, upon arrival, he was initially prevented from entering the premises. Eyewitnesses reported that confrontations occurred both at the college entrance and on the stage prepared for the event, involving students and members of the candidate’s entourage. These scuffles escalated the tension considerably.
The episode unfolded around 12:00 pm, as per eyewitness accounts. BNP-nominated Dhaka-8 candidate and party standing committee member Mirza Abbas was also scheduled to attend the festival, but prior to Patwari’s arrival, parts of the stage had already collapsed. Shortly afterwards, Patwari became the target of multiple eggs thrown by individuals on the stage.
College authorities and security personnel intervened promptly in an attempt to control the situation. However, some students reportedly exacerbated the disorder, further intensifying the chaotic scene. Local sources confirmed that Patwari was not physically injured, though his clothing and personal belongings sustained damage.
