Cocktail Explosion Sparks Panic at Dhaka’s Hatirjheel Area

A sudden cocktail explosion occurred this Thursday afternoon in the Rainbow Crossing area of Hatirjheel, Dhaka, causing panic among passersby, though fortunately, no casualties have been reported. The incident took place at approximately 5:00 pm, prompting immediate concern from local residents and commuters.

Eyewitnesses reported that the device appeared to have been thrown from the elevated Hatirjheel Expressway onto the area below. Upon detonation, the explosion produced a loud blast, startling people nearby and creating a chaotic atmosphere. Many pedestrians and motorists reportedly ran for cover to avoid potential danger.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatirjheel Police Station, Golam Mortuja, confirmed the incident and assured that the police were actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion. “We are verifying the details of the event and working to identify and apprehend those responsible,” he stated.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and to report any suspicious activities or individuals in the area. Law enforcement officials are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras and collecting evidence at the scene to trace the perpetrators.
