Dighi Out, Prabha In

The upcoming government-funded film “Dena-Paona”, based on a story by Rabindranath Tagore, was originally set to feature Prarthana Fardin Dighi in the role of Nirupoma. However, she will no longer appear in the film, and the role has been recast with actress Sadia Jahan Prabha.

The film’s director, Sadek Siddiqui, explained that Dighi could not commit enough time to the project, leading to the decision to replace her with Prabha.

This is not the first time Dighi has been removed from a film:

  • In the popular film “Surongo”, she was replaced by Toma Mirza.
  • In last year’s “Togar”, she was replaced by Puja Cherry.
  • Now, she has been replaced again in “Dena-Paona”.

This recurring pattern has raised questions about why Dighi is repeatedly left out of films.

Directors’ Statements

  • Sadek Siddiqui (Dena-Paona): Dighi had initially signed on but could not allocate sufficient time. There is no conflict or tension, and relations remain amicable.
  • Alok Hasan (Togar): Previously criticised Dighi for uncooperative and unprofessional behaviour.
  • Rayhan Rafi (Surongo): Made similar complaints about Dighi.

Siddiqui emphasised that in this case, there is no dispute; Dighi simply could not meet the time requirements.

Current Cast

  • Nirupoma: Sadia Jahan Prabha
  • Opposite Role: A Kolkata magistrate and landlord’s son, played by Mamun Emon

The casting change has attracted attention in the industry and among fans, given Dighi’s previous experiences of being replaced in high-profile films.
