After a hiatus of 14 years, direct air travel between Bangladesh and Pakistan is set to recommence tomorrow, Thursday. Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate the first passenger flight from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Karachi at 8:00 pm local time.
Biman’s General Manager for Public Relations, Bosra Islam Kalbela, confirmed that the inaugural flight will be conducted using a Boeing 737 aircraft. All 162 seats on this first service have already been sold. If all goes according to plan, the flight is scheduled to land in Karachi at 11:00 pm local time.
Direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi had previously been suspended in 2012. The initiative to restore this route emerged in August 2024, following the formation of an interim government after the fall of the Awami League administration. After months of bilateral discussions between the two nations, Biman Bangladesh Airlines decided to resume operations on this key route. Ticket sales officially commenced on 7 January 2026.
According to Biman’s Public Relations Department, the airline will initially operate two weekly flights on the Dhaka–Karachi–Dhaka route, scheduled for Thursdays and Saturdays. The flights are designed to accommodate both business and leisure travellers, offering more convenient travel options between the two countries. Officials also anticipate that resuming this route will strengthen tourism, facilitate family visits, and create new business opportunities.
| Route | Departure (Local Time) | Arrival (Local Time) | Frequency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dhaka → Karachi | 20:00 | 23:00 | Thursday & Saturday |
| Karachi → Dhaka | 00:00 | 04:20 | Friday & Sunday |
Biman has expressed optimism that the renewed connectivity will serve as a bridge for cultural, economic, and social exchanges between Bangladesh and Pakistan. With travel becoming more streamlined, passengers can now look forward to shorter journeys and a hassle-free flying experience on this historic route.
