Eight Madrasa Students Burned in Transformer Explosion

In Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila, eight students of Borohuzur Bari Darul Najat Women’s Madrasa were burned in a transformer explosion. Five of them were treated with first aid and sent home, while three are under observation in the emergency department of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (October 29) at around 3:45 PM. Later in the evening, the injured students were taken to the emergency department of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

The burned students are: Sadia Akter (12), Rubaiya (9), Ayman (6), Nusrat (10), Alia (30), Tuiba (6), Rowaza (13), and Afrin (13).

On Thursday (October 30) morning, Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident doctor at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, confirmed the incident. He said that the eight madrasa students injured in the transformer explosion in Brahmanbaria were brought to the institute. Among them, Sadia sustained 13% burns, Alia 14%, Afrin 5%, Rubaiya 5%, Ayman 2%, Nusrat 3%, Tuiba 3%, and Rowaza 3%.

He added that five students received first aid and were discharged, while the remaining three are currently under observation in the emergency department.

Regarding the incident, Afrin’s maternal uncle, Md. Anwar, said, We learned that on Wednesday afternoon, a transformer near the madrasa suddenly exploded. At that time, students were studying on the fourth floor of the madrasa. When the flames entered the building, the students were burned. They were quickly rescued in the evening and taken to the National Burn Institute in a burned condition.
