Teenage Girl Found Hanging in Hathazari

A teenage girl was found dead under tragic circumstances in Hathazari of Chattogram, after police recovered her hanging body from a rented residence late Wednesday night. The incident has sparked concern among local residents and prompted an official investigation by law enforcement authorities.

The deceased, identified as Munni Akter (17), was a resident of Ward No. 6 of Gordowara Union. She had been living with her family for several years in a rented apartment at Ma Mansion in the West Fotika area of Hathazari Municipality.

According to police and local sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday night (11 March). Munni reportedly entered her bedroom and remained inside for an unusually long period. When family members repeatedly called her but received no response, they grew concerned and suspected something might be wrong. Eventually, relatives and neighbours alerted the police.

Officers from Hathazari Model Police Station arrived at the residence shortly afterwards. With the assistance of local residents, police forced open the locked bedroom door. Inside, they discovered Munni hanging from a ceiling fan.

The body was immediately taken into police custody. Preliminary observations suggested that the teenager had died by hanging, although authorities have emphasised that the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

Sub-Inspector Md Nazmul Hasan of Hathazari Model Police Station confirmed the recovery of the body on Thursday afternoon (12 March). He stated that police prepared an inquest report at the scene before sending the body for autopsy to the morgue of Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Family members told police that they were unable to provide a clear explanation for the tragic event. However, some local residents indicated that a minor dispute may have occurred shortly before the incident. According to their account, Munni had asked her younger brother to lend her a laptop. When he refused, the two allegedly engaged in a brief argument.

Residents speculate that the disagreement may have left the teenager upset, leading her to retreat to her room. It is believed that shortly afterwards she took the drastic step of ending her life, although this remains unconfirmed pending further investigation.

Officer-in-Charge Md Zahidur Rahman of Hathazari Model Police Station stated that an unnatural death case has been filed in connection with the incident. He added that police are awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.

Authorities have also begun speaking with family members and neighbours to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy. Investigators say they will consider all possible factors, including emotional distress, domestic issues, or other circumstances that may have contributed to the incident.
