Extortion and Vandalism at Mahindra Stand: Bail for Expelled Youth Leader Sparks Fear Among Owners and Workers

In Faridpur city, tension has risen among Mahindra vehicle owners and workers after a recently expelled district youth leader, Masudur Rahman, and his associate Anand Shubho Roy, received bail just four hours after being arrested in connection with extortion and vandalism at the Mahindra Stand. Locals fear they could be targeted again.

According to district police sources, Masudur Rahman was arrested on Wednesday, 24 September at 12:30 pm from the Gowalchamt area of the city. Almost simultaneously, Anand Shubho Roy was apprehended from Bhangar Rasta Mor.

Name Role Arrest Location Arrest Time Bail Status
Masudur Rahman Expelled District Youth Leader Gowalchamt 24 Sept, 12:30 pm Granted same day
Anand Shubho Roy Associate Bhangar Rasta Mor 24 Sept, 12:30 pm Granted same day

Both were granted bail four hours later by the Faridpur First Magistrate Court after appearing before the court at 4:30 pm and applying through their lawyers.

The case arose following extortion, assault, and vandalism allegations on Tuesday afternoon at the Mahindra Stand near Bhangar Rasta Mor. On Wednesday morning, the general secretary of the Mahindra Owners Association, Abul Kalam Azad, filed the case with Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, naming seven individuals, including Masudur Rahman and Anand Shubho Roy.

Masudur Rahman was expelled from the youth organisation on Wednesday following the incident.

The court proceedings revealed that the bail application cited a lack of specific extortion allegations, according to Masudur Rahman’s lawyer, Lutfur Kabir, who told media on Thursday morning that: “The FIR does not include clear extortion charges against the youth leader. Vandalism allegations have been vaguely applied against them.”

Following the instant bail, Mahindra owners and workers expressed deep anxiety and fear of further attacks.

  • Abul Kalam Azad, plaintiff: “We could be attacked again. Since last night, we have heard rumours that they are saying, ‘The game has started, we will see it through to the end.’ We are living in fear.”
  • Abdul Hakim, General Secretary, District Mahindra Workers’ Union: “We are ordinary people who earn our living by working. We fear future attacks or harassment through false cases. This fear is affecting us deeply.”

Md. Asaduzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, stated: “The complainant filed the case, and we registered it based on his statement. It is the complainant’s prerogative to lodge complaints as he sees fit. The police have no direct role beyond this process.”

The incident has left Mahindra owners and workers on edge, highlighting concerns about law enforcement challenges and the impact of immediate bail on public safety in local business areas.
