Fazlur Rahman Claims Threats to His Life

Advocate Fazlur Rahman, Adviser to the BNP Chairperson, has alleged that he is now facing threats to his life. He stated that during Sheikh Hasina’s government, he feared imprisonment and being denied bail, but now he believes the situation has escalated to life-threatening levels.

He made these remarks during a recent talk show on a private television channel.

Statements by Fazlur Rahman

Fazlur Rahman recounted events of 28 October 2023, when a BNP rally of one million participants was dispersed within ten minutes. He said: “At that time, many were jailed, some went into hiding. Millions of party workers risked their lives and became accused. I, Fazlur Rahman, spoke against Hasina every day.”

He also described the personal impact of the political crackdown: “I told my wife that she would become a widow and my children that they would become orphans. Yet, I did not leave my home. At that moment, I believed that the Sheikh Hasina government would not kill a senior lawyer like me.”

Escalation of Threats

However, Fazlur Rahman claims the threats have intensified: “Now, at every moment, it feels like the government, students, Jamaat-Shibir members, and even a YouTuber based in France have made it a duty to assassinate me. Some youths say that mob justice will be executed against me — meaning my death. That was not the case before.”

He emphasised: “Under Sheikh Hasina’s rule, I never thought they would kill me. I only feared imprisonment and denial of bail. But now, they want to kill me.”
