Fire at Shoe Factory in Old Dhaka, 3 Workers Burnt

A fire broke out at a shoe factory in Sikkatuli Mazar Goli area under Banshal police station in Dhaka, leaving three workers injured. The incident occurred at 1:40 am on Sunday (16 November).

Local residents rescued the injured workers and admitted them to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital. The injured are Ainuddin (45), Amiruddin (40), and teenage worker Ruman (16).

Ruman stated that while working at the shoe factory at night, the fire suddenly started from glue solution. The fire quickly spread, causing all three to be burnt. Neighbours rescued them and brought them to DMCH. He said, “Our condition is bad; much of our bodies are burnt.”

Md. Faruk, in charge of the police camp at DMCH Hospital, said that around 1:45 am the three injured workers were brought to the emergency department and quickly transferred to the burn unit, where doctors admitted them. According to his information, 20 percent of Ainuddin’s body, 10 percent of Amiruddin’s body, and 45 percent of teenage worker Ruman’s body were burnt.
