Ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festivities, the Minister of Road Transport, Railways and Shipping, Sheikh Robiul Alam, has assured the public that there are no plans to increase fuel prices. He emphasised that any potential shortage of fuel will not be used as a pretext to disrupt holiday travel or raise transportation fares.
The minister stated that the current domestic fuel reserves are adequate and securely maintained. Authorities have ensured sufficient supply of fuel to buses and other public transport services to guarantee smooth travel for holidaymakers.
“There will be no disruption in travel due to fuel scarcity, and transport operators have no scope to charge extra fares to passengers,” Sheikh Robiul Alam affirmed.
He further elaborated on the government’s broader transport initiatives. Plans are underway to modernise and make the public transportation system in the capital city more commuter-friendly. The metro rail service, which has already become a critical part of urban commuting, will continue to expand its role.
The government is also working on integrating metro rail services with other public transport options, including monorail and bus networks, to bring about a significant transformation in Dhaka’s urban mobility. Sheikh Robiul Alam noted that policy-level decisions have been taken to implement these plans, which will be executed in phases over the coming years.

The ministry stressed that the government is committed to maintaining uninterrupted travel during the Eid period, both for intra-city and inter-city journeys. Public confidence in transport services is being reinforced through these measures, ensuring that commuters experience convenience and affordability during the festive season.
Sheikh Robiul Alam concluded by highlighting that these efforts form part of a wider vision to modernise Dhaka’s transportation network, reduce congestion, and offer an integrated, sustainable commuting experience for all residents.
