IDRA Unveils Elite Life Insurers for 2025 Excellence Awards

In a landmark move to restore public confidence and champion corporate transparency, the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) has officially announced the recipients of the IDRA Insurance Excellence Award 2025. This inaugural initiative seeks to distinguish insurers who have demonstrated peerless governance, regulatory compliance, and customer-centric management within the Bangladeshi market.

A New Benchmark for Industry Standards

The selection process, finalised during the 192nd board meeting of the regulatory body, involved a rigorous evaluation of the country’s 36 life insurance providers. The awards serve as a formal acknowledgement of “best practices,” designed to incentivise healthy competition and address the trust deficit that has historically challenged the sector.

According to a notification signed by Monira Begum, IDRA’s Executive Director (Non-Life), the rankings were determined by a comprehensive review of financial health, claim settlement efficiency, and adherence to the corporate governance code.

IDRA Insurance Excellence Awards 2025: Life Insurance Rankings

Rank Award-Winning Life Insurance Company Category / Standing
1st American Life Insurance Co. Ltd (MetLife) Market Leader
2nd Pragati Life Insurance PLC Top Domestic Performer
3rd Delta Life Insurance Company Limited Industry Stalwart
4th Jiban Bima Corporation (JBC) State-Owned Excellence
5th (Joint) National Life Insurance PLC Co-Winner
5th (Joint) Guardian Life Insurance Limited Co-Winner

Analysis of the Top Performers

The top spot was secured by MetLife Bangladesh, the only multinational life insurer in the country. MetLife’s consistent use of digital technology and its robust claim settlement ratio—often cited as a benchmark in the industry—cemented its position at the apex of the 2025 rankings.

Pragati Life Insurance and Delta Life secured the second and third positions, respectively, showcasing the strength of established private-sector players. Notably, the state-owned Jiban Bima Corporation earned the fourth position, a significant achievement that underscores the public sector’s efforts to modernise its operational framework. The fifth position was a joint honour shared by National Life and the newer, tech-forward Guardian Life, reflecting a blend of traditional reliability and modern innovation.

Restoring Public Faith

The introduction of the Excellence Award comes at a critical juncture for the Bangladeshi insurance industry. While the sector has seen growth, it has frequently faced criticism regarding delayed payouts and a lack of transparency. By publicly celebrating these six companies, IDRA is effectively creating a “whitelist” for consumers, guiding policyholders toward institutions that prioritise ethical management.

The formal award ceremony, expected to be attended by high-ranking government officials and industry leaders, will be scheduled shortly. IDRA has indicated that this will become an annual fixture, ensuring that the drive for excellence remains a permanent feature of the financial landscape.
