Ghazipur, 23 January: In a major crackdown, a joint task force apprehended 35 individuals and seized a significant cache of narcotics, homemade weapons, and explosives from two densely populated slum areas in Tongi, Gazipur.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Friday by two separate teams of the joint forces targeting Ershad Nagar and Haji Mazar slums. The raids were part of an intensified drive to curb crime and prevent disorder ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections.
At a press briefing held at Haji Mazar slum at 8:30 am, Abu Bakkar Siddiq, Executive Magistrate of Gazipur District, disclosed the details of the operation. “These coordinated raids were conducted to ensure law and order in the area, particularly in anticipation of the forthcoming elections. According to official reports, a total of 500 grams of heroin and 347 yaba pills were confiscated alongside two homemade guns and three hand grenades. All 35 individuals arrested during the operation have been taken into custody and were handed over to Tongi East and West police stations.
