BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed deep gratitude to the people of Bangladesh for their heartfelt prayers for BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who is currently in critical condition in the hospital’s CCU. At the same time, he disclosed that his return to Bangladesh is not solely within his control, hinting at a complex political reality behind the situation.
In a post on his verified Facebook ID on Saturday, Tarique Rahman wrote that Begum Khaleda Zia remains critically ill and is under intensive care. Citizens across the country, irrespective of political affiliation, are praying for her recovery. He noted that the Chief Adviser has also expressed solidarity through prayers and has promised full support for her treatment. According to him, local and foreign medical experts are working with utmost professionalism and dedication, while several friendly nations have shown interest in assisting with advanced medical care.
Tarique Rahman extended profound thanks on behalf of the Zia family to everyone who has shown love and offered prayers for Begum Zia. He urged the public to continue praying for her swift recovery. Expressing his personal feelings, he said that he, like any other child, has an intense longing to feel his mother’s touch during such a crisis. But the decision to return home is not one he can make independently.
He wrote that the matter is extremely sensitive, leaving little room for detailed explanation. However, the family remains hopeful that once the political situation reaches a more favourable stage, his long period of anxious waiting to return home will come to an end.
It may be noted that on 23 November, following the recommendation of the medical board, Khaleda Zia was admitted to AirCare Hospital, where doctors reported a lung infection and placed her under intensive observation in the CCU.
