The government has revoked the publishing permit of daily newspaper Jai Jai Din following allegations that it violated printing regulations, according to an order issued today by Dhaka District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner Tanvir Ahmed.
The decision came in response to a formal complaint from the newspaper’s former editor, Shafik Rehman, who accused the publication of printing from an unauthorized press and providing false information in the printers’ line.
The order says that after a thorough review, including issuing a show-cause notice and verifying the allegations, authorities found the complaint to be valid. As a result, the newspaper’s printing declaration was cancelled for violating Section 10 of the Printing and Publications (Declaration and Registration) Act, 1973.
The cancellation specifically applies to the publishing permit held by Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury, who is the publisher of Jai Jai Din and brother of former Awami League lawmaker and minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury.
