Lahore Calls Fizz a Cricketing Treasure

In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) auction, Lahore Qalandars have secured Bangladesh’s pace sensation, Mustafizur Rahman, on a direct contract. The franchise confirmed the deal via social media, highlighting their enthusiasm to bring the left-arm seamer on board. Following the announcement, Lahore Qalandars’ owner, Samin Rana, expressed his excitement in a video message, underlining both the professional and personal significance of Mustafizur joining the squad.

Samin Rana described Mustafizur as “a towering figure in world cricket,” whose presence would add prestige and experience to the Qalandars’ ranks. Expressing his fondness for the player, Rana did not shy away from openly declaring, “Fizz, I love you.” He emphasised that the partnership was a long-cherished ambition for the franchise.

The financial details of the contract reveal that Mustafizur’s deal is valued at PKR 64.4 million, equivalent to approximately BDT 28.1 million. Beyond the monetary aspect, the franchise has high expectations from the Bangladeshi pacer, particularly in the middle and death overs, where his variation and pace can be decisive. Rana remarked, “For the PSL and for world cricket, he is a marquee player. Any team securing him is fortunate. Our history with him makes it even more special.”

The Qalandars describe Mustafizur’s return as a “homecoming”. Rana recounted, “Ten years ago, when the PSL began, Lahore Qalandars had initially picked Mustafizur in the Gold Category. Unfortunately, due to some NOC issues, he couldn’t join us then. Two years later, he finally came and performed brilliantly. It’s a privilege to have a player of his calibre representing Lahore again.”

In the upcoming season, Mustafizur will form a formidable pace duo with Pakistan star Shaheen Shah Afridi. Discussing the pairing, Rana said, “I can’t wait to see Shaheen and Fizz bowling together. Mustafizur’s performance in the middle and death overs is exceptional.”

Rana also praised Bangladeshi cricketers in general, lauding their skill, professionalism, and approachability. “Bangladeshi players are not only talented on the field but are wonderful humans off it. I’ve enjoyed working with Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Shakib Al Hasan, and Rishad Hossain. They bring energy, passion, and a sense of ownership to the team. Anyone coming from Bangladesh plays as if the franchise is their own brand,” he said.
