Man and Daughter-in-Law Killed in Madaripur Expressway Collision

A tragic road accident on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway in Shibchar Upazila, Madaripur, claimed the lives of a man and his daughter-in-law early this morning. Ten others sustained injuries in the multi-vehicle crash.

Victims Identified

The deceased have been identified as:

  • Masud Biswas (55): Son of the late Dhala Biswas, resident of Ramakantapur, Saltha Upazila, Faridpur.
  • Firoza Begum (28): Wife of Mamun Biswas, and daughter-in-law of Masud.

Incident Summary

According to Zahirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Shibchar Highway Police Station:

  • The incident occurred at Kutubpur when a microbus collided with a covered van from behind.
  • Both vehicles came to a halt after the collision.
  • Shortly thereafter, a speeding bus rammed into them, resulting in:
    • Immediate death of two microbus passengers (Masud and Firoza).
    • Injuries to 10 others, comprising both microbus and bus passengers.

Response and Medical Attention

The injured individuals were swiftly transported to various local hospitals for treatment. Emergency services responded promptly to manage the situation and clear the expressway.

Authorities are investigating the sequence of events and considering safety protocols to prevent similar occurrences on the busy expressway
