Heavy metal titans Metallica have officially confirmed they will descend upon the Las Vegas Sphere in the autumn of 2026 for a groundbreaking residency. Titled ‘Life Burns Faster’, the eight-date stint will see James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo take over the world’s most advanced immersive venue, putting an end to months of fervent speculation and industry rumours.

The residency is set to span four weeks throughout October 2026. In a move that will delight "hardwired" fans, the band will continue their celebrated ‘No Repeat Weekend’ tradition, a concept popularised during their massive M72 World Tour. This format guarantees that the setlist for each Thursday performance will be entirely different from the following Saturday, ensuring that no song is played twice over the course of a single weekend.

The Las Vegas Sphere represents the pinnacle of modern live entertainment, featuring the world’s highest-resolution LED screen and an audio system comprising over 160,000 speakers. For Metallica, this provides a "next-level" canvas to pair their legendary "sound and fury" with multi-sensory 4D technology and AI-driven visual landscapes.

By securing a residency at the Sphere, Metallica joins an elite roster of artists—including U2, the Eagles, and Dead & Company—who have utilised the venue's unique architecture. Co-founder Lars Ulrich recalled the moment he was sold on the idea: "About 12 seconds into the opening night of Sphere with U2 back in ‘23, I thought, ‘We have to do this.’ It is completely uncharted territory!"

Lead guitarist Kirk Hammett has also previously expressed his fascination with the venue, describing it as a prime example of how the intersection of technology and art is evolving. With Hammett recently revealing he has amassed over 760 new riffs, fans are speculating whether the residency might also serve as a platform to debut new material following their 2023 album, 72 Seasons.
