In a chilling incident in Munshiganj’s Sirajdikhan Upazila, police have recovered the bloodied bodies of a mother and her young daughter from their rented residence. The tragic discovery occurred on Monday, 19 January, at approximately 12:30 pm in South Rajanagar village of Rajanagar Union.
The deceased have been identified as Amena Begum, aged 35, and her 10-year-old daughter, Mariam. Both were residing as tenants in the home of local resident Nuruzzaman Sarkar.
According to local sources and police officials, neighbours noticed the bodies inside the house and immediately alerted the authorities. Sirajdikhan police arrived at the scene promptly and recovered the bodies for further investigation.
Amena Begum’s husband, Mizan Mia, who works as a day labourer, has been missing since the incident and is currently at large. Police have listed him as a prime suspect in the case.
Munshiganj Superintendent of Police, Md. Menhazul Alam, confirmed the incident, stating, “Preliminary investigations indicate that this is a case of homicide. The husband is being treated as a suspect due to his absence following the incident. Investigations are ongoing.”
He further added that police are collecting evidence from the crime scene and preparing to send the bodies for autopsy. Efforts are underway to ascertain the motive behind the killings, and a manhunt has been launched to locate the fugitive husband.
Local residents expressed shock at the brutal nature of the killings, emphasising that the family was considered ordinary and lived quietly in the village. Authorities have appealed to anyone with information about Mizan Mia’s whereabouts to come forward.
