Nine Palestinians killed in Israeli airstrike on Gaza

At least nine Palestinians, including three children, were killed on Wednesday in a series of Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling across Gaza. The Palestinian Civil Defence Agency reported that at least 31 others were injured in the attacks, which struck multiple locations throughout the territory.

The Israeli military stated that the operations were a response to gunfire directed at their troops, which resulted in one officer being injured. Following the incident, Israeli forces launched strikes on “specific targets,” describing the actions as a response to what they consider a breach of the Gaza ceasefire.

The latest attacks reportedly occurred near the so-called “Yellow Line,” outside areas of Israeli military presence in Gaza.

Since the second phase of the US-mediated ceasefire came into effect on 10 October, a total of 523 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes, according to official Gaza sources.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military reported the deaths of four of its own soldiers in ongoing hostilities. Civil defence authorities also noted that at least 37 people were killed in Israeli strikes last Saturday alone, which Israel claims were retaliatory measures following Hamas’ violations of the ceasefire.

In the southern Gaza district of Khan Yunis, three bodies were transferred to Nasser Hospital after strikes hit residential areas and tents. In Gaza City, six more fatalities were taken to Al-Shifa Hospital following separate attacks.

Diplomatic efforts continue alongside the violence. On Tuesday, US envoy Steve Whitcraft met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. Netanyahu reiterated his stance that before reconstruction can begin in Gaza, Hamas must be disarmed and the territory fully demilitarised.

The recent escalation highlights the fragile state of the ceasefire and the continued tension between Israel and Gaza-based groups. Humanitarian organisations have repeatedly called for urgent protection of civilians, particularly children, amid the ongoing exchanges of fire.

Casualty Overview (Wednesday Strikes)

Location Fatalities Injured Notes
Khan Yunis 3 Strikes on tents and homes
Gaza City 6 Bodies taken to Al-Shifa Hospital
Total Palestinians 9 31+ Including 3 children
Israeli soldiers 4 Killed in ongoing clashes

The continuing cycle of violence underscores the urgency for renewed negotiations and international intervention to prevent further civilian casualties and address humanitarian needs.
