A petrol bomb attack was carried out on a branch of Grameen Bank in Shreepur, Gazipur, in the early hours of Saturday. The incident occurred around 2:00 AM in the Bartoba Bazaar area of Maona Union. Rehana Parveen, the manager of the Maona branch, stated that the bank’s security guard was inside the building at the time of the attack. A group of individuals attempted to open the main gate of the bank, but suddenly a loud explosion was heard. The security guard observed seven to eight people fleeing the scene. Moments later, three more explosive sounds followed, with three petrol bombs detonating in quick succession. One of the bombs landed inside the bank’s premises, setting fire to part of the signboard outside. Fortunately, there was no damage inside the bank.
Following the incident, bank employees were left shaken and alarmed. Local residents, drawn by the noise, arrived at the scene to find the area filled with the smell of petrol.
Abdur Razzak, the regional manager of Grameen Bank, confirmed that the incident had been reported to higher authorities, who advised filing a general diary at the local police station.
Mohammad Abdul Barik, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Shreepur police station, noted that the police patrols in the area had prevented the attackers from causing more significant damage. Officers found several bottles at the site, which will be investigated further.
