Petrol Bomb Attack Sparks Blaze in Government Offices in Magura

In a shocking escalation of violence in Magura, two key government offices in the district town were severely damaged in separate petrol bomb attacks late last night. The attacks targeted the Assistant Land Office and the District Sub-Registrar’s Office, leaving important documents, furniture, and computers destroyed.

According to Asma Akhtar, the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Magura Sadar, the first attack occurred around 3 a.m. when unidentified assailants broke the rear window of the Assistant Land Office and hurled petrol bombs inside. The ensuing fire quickly engulfed the ground floor, destroying computers, office furniture, and numerous land-related documents. The blaze caused significant operational disruption, and officials are now struggling to recover critical records.

In a related incident, Sub-Registrar Shubhra Rani Das reported that the Islamapur Para Sub-Registrar Office was also targeted on the same night. Petrol bombs thrown into the premises ignited a fire that destroyed ground-floor offices and the documentation handled by clerks.

Alim Molla, Station Leader of the Magura Fire Service, confirmed that the fires in both offices led to the disconnection of electrical lines, further complicating firefighting efforts. Authorities were able to bring the blazes under control, but substantial damage had already been done.

District Administrator Abdullah Al Mahmud and Superintendent of Police Habibur Rahman assured the public that investigations are underway. Law enforcement officials are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting other evidence to identify the perpetrators. Security around government offices has been heightened in the aftermath, as residents express concern over the audacity of the attacks.

This incident has raised serious questions about the safety and security of government facilities in Magura, with experts calling for immediate action to protect public records and employees from similar attacks in the future.
