A wave of revulsion and public fury has swept through the Dhamoirhat Upazila of Naogaon following the discovery of a gruesome fraudulent scheme. Two local butchers stand accused of slaughtering dogs and passing the meat off as mutton to unsuspecting customers. The incident, which unfolded on Sunday morning at the Mangalbari Bazaar in Jahanpur Union, has sparked a firestorm on social media and left the local community in a state of high tension.
The perpetrators, identified as Emtajul, son of Oli Shah, and his accomplice Dulu Moulvi, son of Ahmad Hossain, have long operated a stall at the Tetultoli intersection on the Nengrapir-Isabpur road. According to local residents, the duo typically prepared meat at their residence before bringing it to the market for sale.
Suspicion arose early Sunday when neighbours reportedly witnessed the slaughter of a dog at the butchers’ home. As word spread through the bazaar like wildfire, the atmosphere grew hostile. Sensing the impending backlash, Emtajul and Dulu Moulvi abandoned their stall and fled the scene before the authorities arrived.
Upon receiving reports of the scandal, officers from the Dhamoirhat Police Station arrived to find a large, agitated crowd gathered at the market. Investigators recovered a significant quantity of illicit meat that had been prepared for sale. Golam Kibria, the Chairman of Jahanpur Union Parishad, confirmed the harrowing details of the recovery.

For the residents of Dhamoirhat, the incident has damaged the sense of communal trust. Local patrons are now calling for stricter oversight and regular inspections of meat markets to ensure food safety and religious compliance. As the search for the rogue butchers continues, the bazaar remains under police watch to prevent further unrest.
