Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar, advisor to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, has stated that schools cannot be closed in uncertain situations such as earthquakes.
On Sunday afternoon, after inaugurating the newly constructed playground at Bagbari Choubari Government Primary School in Katuli Union, Tangail Sadar, he spoke to reporters and made this comment.
The advisor said, ‘Earthquakes can occur at any time. Therefore, instead of panic, caution and preparedness are most important. Necessary precautionary instructions have already been sent to schools.’
He also mentioned, ‘Currently, nearly 32,000 headteacher positions in primary schools across the country are vacant, which creates a major obstacle in school management. Promotions have been delayed for a long time due to legal complications. The matter is currently under consideration in the Supreme Court.
We are making every effort to resolve the case quickly. Once it is settled, 32,000 assistant teachers will be promoted to headteacher positions. New appointments will then be made for any vacancies that arise.’
