Seven-Case Suspect Arrested with Firearm

In a decisive late-night operation, police from Pallabi Thana apprehended a 37-year-old man, Md. Alal, in the Talatala slum area of Mirpur, Dhaka. The suspect was found in possession of a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, and four rounds of ammunition.

The arrest occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, according to law enforcement officials, marking a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb violent crime in the area. Alal has a long criminal history, with seven previous cases lodged against him, including robbery and assault on police officers.

Acting Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pallabi Thana, AKM Alamgir Jahan, told reporters, “Based on credible intelligence, our team conducted a targeted operation in Talatala and successfully detained an individual carrying an illegal firearm. He is now being held under the Arms Act, and further investigation is underway.”

The OC further noted that the authorities are actively questioning Alal to uncover detailed information about the origins and intended use of the weapon. The recovery of a foreign pistol, along with ammunition, underscores the potential threat posed by armed individuals operating in densely populated areas.

Police sources provided a breakdown of Alal’s previous legal cases, which highlights the scope of his criminal activities:

Case Number Allegation Filing Location Current Status
1 Robbery Pallabi Thana Under Trial
2 Assault on Police Mirpur Thana Under Trial
3 Illegal possession of weapons Shahbagh Thana Under Trial
4 Theft Tejgaon Thana Under Trial
5 Involvement in violent acts Hatirjheel Thana Under Trial
6 Attempted extortion Dhaka Metropolitan Under Trial
7 Local disturbance Kakrail Thana Under Trial

The successful operation has heightened security measures in and around Talatala, with local residents expressing relief after a period of heightened criminal activity. Neighbours described Alal as a persistent source of fear in the community due to his history of violence and confrontations with law enforcement.

Law enforcement officials stressed that the arrest is part of a broader strategy to dismantle armed networks and prevent further incidents in urban slum areas. They are hopeful that interrogation of Alal will yield actionable intelligence, potentially leading to further arrests and recovery of more illegal firearms.

This apprehension marks one of the latest victories for Pallabi Thana in its ongoing mission to ensure public safety and reduce violent crime in Dhaka’s high-risk areas. Police have urged residents to continue cooperating with authorities by sharing information on suspicious activity.
