Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), paid a visit to the grave of Shahid Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson of the Inquilab Stage at Dhaka University Central Mosque, on Saturday, 27 December. The visit marked a moment of homage to one of the party’s revered figures.
Rahman departed from his residence in Gulshan at 10:45 a.m. and arrived at the Dhaka University Central Mosque precinct at 11:15 a.m. During his visit, he also paid respects at the grave of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, further emphasising the significance of national heritage alongside party history.
Prominent BNP leaders accompanied him, including party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam and Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas, highlighting the importance of the occasion for the party’s senior leadership.
Following the grave visit, Tarique Rahman had scheduled a series of public engagements. His next plan was to visit the Election Commission office to register his National Identity Card (NID). Subsequently, he intended to visit Pangu Hospital in Shyamoli, Dhaka, to meet those injured during the July mass uprising. However, upon arrival, it was found that no casualties from the uprising were admitted to the hospital, leading to the cancellation of that particular visit.
This sequence of events illustrates Tarique Rahman’s continued public engagements and symbolic visits, blending commemoration with civic responsibilities. Observers noted that the visit to Osman Hadi’s grave coincided with broader political messaging by the BNP, aiming to honour historical figures while engaging with ongoing civic matters.
