A Sirajganj court has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of e-rickshaw driver Manik Hossain in Kamarkhand Upazila. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday afternoon by District and Sessions Judge Md. Iqbal Hossain in the presence of the accused, confirmed Public Prosecutor (PP) Rafique Sarkar.
The victim, 21-year-old Manik Hossain, left his home on 21 November 2023 riding his battery-operated e-rickshaw but never returned. By 10:00 pm that evening, his mobile phone was switched off, and family members were unable to locate him despite an extensive search.
The following morning, local residents informed the family of a body found in a bamboo grove in Jhail Uttarpara village, under Kamarkhand Police Station. Upon visiting the site, relatives identified the deceased as Manik Hossain. Subsequently, his mother, Hafiza Khatun, filed a murder case against unknown assailants at the local police station.
Using advanced information technology during the investigation, police identified and later arrested three suspects: Khokon Sheikh, Saddam Sheikh, and Rabbi, also known as Habib Sheikh. The arrests were facilitated in part by information provided by Khokon Sheikh, who additionally led police to the stolen e-rickshaw. Khokon Sheikh later gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Following collection of evidence and witness testimonies, the police filed a charge sheet against all three accused.
The court found the three men guilty of murder and sentenced each to life imprisonment with hard labour. In addition, Judge Iqbal Hossain imposed a monetary fine of 20,000 taka on each convict.

The case underscores the growing concern over targeted attacks on small-scale transport operators and highlights the role of technology-assisted policing in swiftly identifying and prosecuting perpetrators.
