37 Official Residences Ready for Ministers

A total of 37 official residences have been prepared for the incoming ministers and state ministers, according to Adilur Rahman, Advisor to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. He announced the figure on Monday during a briefing with journalists at the Secretariat in Dhaka.

However, the residence for the new Prime Minister has not yet been confirmed. Adilur Rahman stated that the Prime Minister’s accommodation will be arranged according to her preference, once a decision is made in consultation with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). “It will be organised exactly as she wishes,” he said.

Ministerial Residences Distribution

The prepared houses are located in four key areas of Dhaka: Minto Road, Hair Road, Dhanmondi, and Gulshan. Additional residences may be readied if required, particularly ahead of the swearing-in ceremony. Some of the current residences are still occupied by advisors, who will vacate them for the new ministers once necessary.

Adilur Rahman highlighted that the current government took office through a popular movement and has spent 18 months working for the benefit of the citizens. “We have strived to guide the country towards a new direction, moving away from 15 and a half years of authoritarian rule, and have aimed to remain accountable to the people for our actions,” he said.

Prime Minister’s Residence

Preparations for the Prime Minister’s residence began even before the general election, with the interim government conducting preliminary surveys. Several potential sites were considered, including:

State Guest House Jamuna

Speaker and Deputy Speaker’s residences in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar parliamentary complex

A property in the Defence Ministry area

Although the State Guest House Jamuna is currently considered the most likely option, a final decision has not yet been taken.

Swearing-in Ceremony Preparations

The swearing-in ceremony for the new ministers and state ministers is expected to take place tomorrow, Tuesday. In anticipation, the Cabinet Division has instructed the Department of Government Transport to ensure that an adequate number of official vehicles are available for the incoming ministers.

These measures reflect a systematic approach to ensuring a smooth transition for the new administration, with accommodation and transport arranged to facilitate immediate assumption of office.
