Two Children Drown in Comilla Pond, Cousins Die

Two children have drowned in a pond in Nangalkot, Comilla. The deceased were cousins. The incident occurred on Thursday (20 November) in the West Para area of Shrirampur village, Raykot North Union of the upazila.

The victims are Sadiya Akter (21 months), daughter of Md. Ahsan of Hafiz House in Shrirampur, and Arian Hossain (22 months), son of Salauddin.

Locals reported that both Arian’s father Salauddin and Sadiya’s father Ahsan live in Oman. Around noon, Arian’s mother Fahima and Sadiya’s mother Nadia were busy with cooking while the children were playing in the courtyard. They crossed the house gate and went towards the pond. Neighbour Nasrin Akter saw the children floating in the pond, and with local assistance, they were rescued. They were taken to Chouddagram Upazila Health Complex, where doctors on duty declared them dead.

Deputy Assistant Medical Officer Robiul Hasan of Chouddagram Upazila Health Complex said, “The children had already died before arriving at the hospital.”
