In a dramatic overnight operation in Chattogram, Bangladeshi police engaged in a gunfight with suspected terrorists, resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a significant cache of weapons and narcotics. One suspect was injured during the exchange of fire.
The operation took place in the Chalitoli area of Bayezid Bostami Thana. Authorities have identified the apprehended suspects as Mohammad Ishtiak Hasan Emon, aged 26, and Md. Jasim, aged 35. Police stated that the raid was conducted based on intelligence that followers of the notorious terrorist Borho Sajjad were hiding in a house on Haji Bari Lane.
According to Additional Police Commissioner Wahidul Haque Chowdhury, the raid occurred in the early hours of Monday at approximately 3:00 a.m. When police approached, the suspects opened fire. Officers returned fire, and in the ensuing gunfight, one suspect was shot in the head and subsequently arrested. The other suspect was also detained along with an extensive arsenal.
The haul recovered by police included both foreign and locally manufactured firearms, ammunition, narcotics, and operational equipment.

Police also confirmed the seizure of 880 pieces of Yaba and MDMA tablets. The recovered firearms, including two pistols, one SMG, and a pipe gun, were reportedly used by members of the Borho Sajjad group. Additional equipment, such as body-worn cameras and a firearms repair kit, was also recovered.
During a press briefing at the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) media centre on Tuesday afternoon, Commissioner Wahidul Haque reassured residents that there is no cause for alarm, emphasising that police remain vigilant and operational in the field 24 hours a day. Authorities are investigating the origin of the weapons and are conducting further interrogations of the arrested suspects.
The swift action is being hailed as a significant blow to organised terrorist activities in the Bayezid Bostami area, curbing potential threats to public safety.
