Ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, traffic across the Padma Bridge has surged as travellers from 21 southern districts of Bangladesh return home. During the first two days of the festive rush, a total of 80,402 vehicles crossed the bridge in both directions, generating approximately 87.27 million Taka in toll revenue.
Despite the heavy influx, traffic flowed smoothly on Thursday (19 March), with no reports of congestion or commuter inconvenience. Law enforcement and traffic management authorities have intensified their operations, ensuring seamless movement across the bridge. The entire bridge area is under continuous surveillance with 181 CCTV cameras monitoring traffic and security.
According to the Padma Bridge Authority, there has been no unusual pressure on the bridge, and vehicle speed has remained normal throughout the initial days of the festive journey.

Traffic from the Mawa side has been notably higher, with 53,358 vehicles crossing the bridge over the two-day period. The implementation of separate toll counters for different vehicle categories—seven for larger vehicles and three exclusively for motorcycles—has expedited the toll collection process, ensuring that passengers reach their destinations without delay.
Abu Syed, Executive Engineer at the Padma Bridge side office, confirmed that vehicles have been moving without congestion since early morning. A total of ten toll lanes—including three specifically for motorcycles—have been operational to maintain smooth operations, and contingency measures are in place to address any emergencies.
Shibchar Highway Police Officer-in-Charge, Jahirul Islam, reported that traffic on the Dhaka–Bhanga Expressway, particularly around the Padma Bridge, is flowing normally. Security forces remain vigilant to prevent any untoward incidents and to ensure commuter safety during the peak festive period.
Thanks to meticulous planning, dedicated toll management, and coordinated law enforcement, travellers are able to journey home for Eid with ease and confidence.
