A visitor was arrested at Comilla District Jail with cannabis by the prison authorities. He was subsequently sentenced to three months in prison and fined 500 taka.
The incident occurred on Thursday (20 November) at the RP gate of the jail.
The arrested visitor, Maju Mia, is the son of Siraj Mia from Majidpur village under Titas Police Station.
According to prison sources, his behaviour appeared suspicious upon entering the jail, prompting Reserve Subedar and Acting Chief Warden Md. Sharif Uddin, along with on-duty warders Alvi and Roni, to search him. Three parcels of cannabis were found in the pocket of his panjabi during the search.
During questioning, Maju Mia admitted that he was carrying the cannabis for personal use. He stated that he had come to meet inmates Md. Hossain and Smriti Akter. With the assistance of the Executive Magistrate, a mobile court sentenced him to three months imprisonment and a fine of 500 taka, after which he was sent back to the jail.
