Today is World Diabetes Day. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) declared 14 November as World Diabetes Day in 1991. Since 2007, the day has been observed globally.
At the request of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh, the Government of Bangladesh submitted a proposal to the United Nations to observe 14 November as World Diabetes Day.
On 20 December 2006, the proposal was unanimously approved at the United Nations.
According to information from the World Health Organization and the International Diabetes Federation, every 10 seconds one diabetes patient dies worldwide, and two new patients are diagnosed within the same time.
