A tragic railway accident in the city of Narsingdi has claimed the life of an unidentified young man after he was struck by the intercity train Sonar Bangla Express while walking along a live railway track near Botaltola Bazar level crossing. The incident occurred on Sunday morning at approximately 8:45 am, leaving the local community in shock and prompting renewed concerns over railway safety.
According to railway police and eyewitness accounts, the victim—believed to be around 25 years of age—was walking carelessly along the railway line adjacent to the busy market area. Despite the presence of an active railway corridor, he reportedly remained on the track as trains approached. At that time, the Sonar Bangla Express was travelling from Dhaka towards Chattogram at considerable speed. As the train passed through the Botaltola Bazar crossing area, it struck the young man with devastating force.
The impact proved fatal. His body sustained severe injuries, including catastrophic damage to part of the skull and the right leg. Death was instantaneous, according to officials at the scene. The violent nature of the collision drew immediate attention from local residents, several of whom rushed to the site after hearing the sound of the impact.
Shortly afterwards, members of the Railway Police reached the location following notification from bystanders. Sub-Inspector Dilip Chandra Sarker led the recovery operation, retrieving the body from the tracks and preparing a formal inquest report. Authorities confirmed that the victim was not carrying any identification documents at the time of the incident.
In an effort to establish his identity, officers from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) were called to the scene. They collected fingerprint samples and began cross-referencing missing persons records. Law enforcement officials have stated that identifying the deceased remains a top priority, as no confirmed personal details are currently available.
The body has been prepared for transfer to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination, which is expected to provide further forensic clarity regarding the cause and nature of injuries.
