In a celebration that bridged continents, the historic House of Commons in the United Kingdom recently hosted the launch of the Bengali duet ‘Prem Piyasa’, performed by the legendary vocalist Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and acclaimed singer Rubaiyat Zahan. The event was organised by British Member of Parliament Ruth Cadbury alongside internationally renowned composer and music director Raja Kashef, highlighting the growing global presence of Bengali music.

The ceremony also paid tribute to Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his son Shah Jaman Khan, recognising their lifelong contributions to music. The event drew a distinguished audience, including celebrated Bangladeshi singer and BCB director Asif Akbar, music producer Dhrubo Guha of Dhrubo Music Station (DMS), members of the British Parliament, House of Commons officials, and prominent figures from the Bangladeshi diaspora.

The song’s lyrics were penned by National Film Award-winning lyricist Kabir Bakul, while the composition and musical arrangement were handled by Raja Kashef. The official music video was directed by Saikat Reza.

Speaking at the event, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan expressed his admiration for the dedication of Raja Kashef and Rubaiyat Zahan, saying, “Their unwavering commitment to music has truly impressed me.
