Lakshmipur, Bangladesh – Tragedy struck in Raipur municipal town on Thursday, 5 March, when Belal Hossain Mishori, a 50-year-old leader of the local Jubo Dal (Youth League), was fatally assaulted by a rickshaw driver during a minor dispute. The incident sparked immediate protests, with party activists and local residents blocking the main road in anger, before police intervened to restore order.
The assault occurred around midday outside a fruit stall on the busy Raipur Main Road. Eyewitnesses reported that the confrontation began over the placement of a rickshaw on the roadside.
The accused, Arman (35), son of Shah Alam Bayati and resident of Ward 8, had parked his rickshaw along the street when a verbal dispute erupted with an elderly local man, Kabir Mohori (55). Initially limited to a heated argument, the situation escalated rapidly.
Belal Hossain Mishori, president of Ward 3 of the Raipur Upazila Jubo Dal and a respected local businessman, intervened in an attempt to mediate between the two men. According to witnesses, Arman suddenly became aggressive and began repeatedly striking Mishori on the chest. Mishori collapsed on the spot, sustaining severe injuries. Passersby attempted to rush him to hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route, leaving family and the community in shock.
Following the incident, local residents and party activists blocked the Raipur Main Road in protest, demanding justice. The police arrived promptly and brought the situation under control, but the accused fled the scene and remains at large.
Mishori’s younger brother, Helal Hossain, said:

Shahin Mia, Officer-in-Charge of Raipur Police Station, confirmed:
“We are aware of the incident and have launched a full investigation. Legal action will be taken based on the findings. Police operations to apprehend the suspect are ongoing.”
