Published: 08 Feb 2026, 04:19 am

In a significant demonstration of fiscal responsibility and operational efficiency, Desh General Insurance Company Limited has successfully settled two substantial marine cargo insurance claims for Max Group. The payout, totalling approximately Tk 1.63 million, follows a disruptive fire incident at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s cargo village.

Incident and Settlement Overview

The claims originated from a blaze that broke out on 18 October 2025, which severely damaged insured consignments belonging to Max Group. Recognising the urgency of the situation, Desh General Insurance initiated the settlement protocol immediately upon the formal lodging of the claims. The total disbursement of Tk 1,634,276 was processed once the requisite documentation and independent survey reports were finalised.

On 1 February 2026, a formal ceremony was held to mark the transfer of funds. Md Hamidi Khan, Chief Executive Officer of Desh General Insurance, presented the settlement cheques to Md Mahmud Hossain, Deputy General Manager (Corporate Finance) of Max Group. The event was attended by senior dignitaries from both organisations, including Max Group’s CFO, Md Shahidul Islam Khan, and Desh General’s Divisional Head of Claims, Md Ziaul Haque.
