Former Arsenal footballer Billy Vigar (21) tragically lost his life after sustaining a serious injury during a match.
Vigar, a forward for Chichester City, suffered a severe head injury during a match against Wingate & Finchley in the Isthmian League. The match was abandoned just 13 minutes after the incident due to the severity of the situation. Vigar remained in a coma following the brain injury and sadly passed away on Thursday. His death was confirmed in an official statement by Chichester City.
In their statement, Chichester City noted: “After suffering a serious brain injury, Billy Vigar went into a coma. Surgery was performed to try to save him, and while there was slight improvement, the injury was so severe that, ultimately, he left us.”

Vigar’s career began in Arsenal’s academy at the age of 14. He signed his first professional contract with the club in 2022 and subsequently played for Derby County’s Under-21 team and Eastbourne Borough. In July 2024, he joined Hastings United on a free transfer and later signed for Chichester City for the current season.
