Regarding voter turnout in the upcoming national parliamentary elections, Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Anwarul Islam stated that some observers are predicting a 70% turnout, which is higher than the usual 55–60% seen in previous polls.
He made these remarks on Saturday, 27 September, at the ‘Election Officers Conference 2025’ held at the Election Commission Secretariat Auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka.
“It is encouraging to hear that voter turnout may be so high. This shows significant awareness among the electorate this time,” said EC Md. Anwarul Islam.
The Election Commissioner emphasised that the Election Commission’s backbone is strong, asserting that such resilience is essential for credible elections.
“If this Commission did not have a strong backbone, which Commission would? We are working professionally to ensure a fair and transparent election,” he said.
Election Commissioner Tahmida Ahmed spoke at the conference about the importance of gender-inclusive elections, highlighting the role of women voters.
“We must conduct a gender-friendly election. Women’s participation is crucial because on election day, they are guaranteed equal rights,” she said.
