Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit and actor Sanjay Dutt were once the focus of intense media attention for their romantic involvement. Rumours of their relationship began during the filming of Saajan. However, their romance ended when Sanjay’s name became linked to the 1993 Mumbai blast case. Recently, journalist Hanif Javeri revealed the reasons behind the breakup in an interview.
Javeri explained that Madhuri deliberately began keeping her distance after Sanjay’s arrest. When Sanjay was released on bail, a film producer organised an event to bring them together publicly for a photograph. However, Madhuri’s behaviour made it clear that she no longer wished to be associated with him.
“I noticed that photographers were eagerly waiting, hoping to capture Madhuri and Sanjay together for the first time after the incident. But instead of going on stage, Madhuri and a few companions left the event swiftly. It was evident she did not want her picture taken with Sanjay,” Javeri said.
According to Javeri, the primary reason for Madhuri’s distancing was the legal complexity surrounding Sanjay’s case. She feared being questioned or implicated in any way, which could have had a disastrous impact on her career.
Madhuri prioritised her professional life above all else and ensured she kept herself completely away from Sanjay.
This episode remains one of the most controversial chapters in Bollywood history, highlighting how Madhuri navigated personal relationships carefully to protect her career while facing intense public scrutiny.
