Three Qatari diplomats were killed and two others injured on Sunday in a car crash near the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, the Qatari embassy confirmed.

The diplomats had recently arrived in the Red Sea city to participate in negotiations over a Gaza ceasefire and the release of hostages.

Egyptian state-linked media Al-Qahera News reported that five Qatari nationals and an Egyptian driver were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, which occurred due to a loss of control of the steering wheel.
