Three Killed as Bus Mows Down Auto Rickshaw

In Madhabdi, Narsingdi, three people, including a battery-operated auto-rickshaw driver, were killed after being hit by a passenger bus. The incident occurred around 11:30 PM on Thursday (23 October) on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, in the Rainadi area of Madhabdi.

The deceased have been identified as: Fahim Mia (28), son of Robiullah, the auto-rickshaw driver; Sabbir (25), son of Altaf Hossain, a passenger; and Siam (22), son of Ajibur Mia, also a passenger.

According to highway police and locals, a fast-moving Lucky Transport bus was traveling from Dhaka to Sylhet when the battery-operated auto-rickshaw, coming from Madhabdi, was attempting to cross the highway. The bus struck the rickshaw, crushing it completely.

Siam died instantly at the scene. Locals and police rescued the others and initially took them to Narsingdi District Hospital for first aid before transferring them to Dhaka for further treatment. On the way, the auto-rickshaw driver Fahim and passenger Sabbir succumbed to their injuries; Sabbir passed away at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Regarding the incident, Itakhola Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Moniruzzaman said that two people died on the spot. The third victim’s status was initially unclear, and investigations were ongoing. The bus involved in the accident has been seized, and legal action is underway.
