The Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued 44 individuals in the hilly areas of Baharchhara in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, who were being held for abduction, ransom, or trafficking purposes. Among the rescued, 41 were Rohingya and three were Bangladeshi nationals.
According to the Coast Guard, the operation took place from 2:30 AM on Thursday, 23 October, until 7:00 AM on Friday, 24 October, in the Pirichbhanga hills of Noakhali Para in Baharchhara Union.
The operation was launched based on confidential information that men and women were being gathered in the area for trafficking to Malaysia or for ransom demands. The rescued individuals are currently being held at the Keruntali Station of Teknaf Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard also announced that a press briefing providing detailed information about the operation will be held at 3:30 PM today.
