A 23-year-old woman has been brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight after an unidentified assailant broke into her rented flat in Gazipur, on the outskirts of the Bangladeshi capital.

The victim, identified as Sanjida Akter, was attacked at approximately 10:30 am on Sunday within the Ambag Ataur Market neighborhood, situated in the Konabari area under the Gazipur City Corporation. Sanjida, originally from the Kotwali police station area of Barishal district, was the daughter of Shahahan Howlader and had been residing in the rented accommodation for work and living purposes.

According to preliminary statements from local residents and law enforcement, an unknown young man breached the residence during the mid-morning hours and delivered a fatal single blow with a knife directly to the victim’s chest. Hearing her frantic cries for help, neighbors rushed to the apartment and discovered Sanjida bleeding profusely from the severe thoracic wound.

Distressed onlookers swiftly organised transport to rush her to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, but her condition deteriorated rapidly. She succumbed to her injury en route and was pronounced dead prior to arrival.

Officers from the Konabari Police Station arrived shortly after being alerted to the incident, taking custody of the body for forensic examinations and a formal post-mortem. While the motive behind the fatal assault remains unclear, officers have secured the crime scene and launched a comprehensive investigation to trace the assailant, who managed to flee the location immediately following the attack.

Gazipur Metropolitan Police’s Konabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md. Iftekhar Hossain, confirmed that legal proceedings are currently underway. Investigators are reviewing eyewitness accounts and potential getaway routes to identify and apprehend the perpetrator, while police work to determine whether the motive was grounded in personal enmity, burglary, or targeted violence.
