In Boalmari, Faridpur, two passengers of a battery-operated van were killed and two others injured after being hit by a truck.
The accident occurred on Friday night around 10:45 pm at Kankhardi area of Satair Union on the Majkandi-Bhatiapara regional road.
The deceased are Madhu Saha (45) from Shelahati village of Ghoshpur Union and Narayan Chandra Saha (43) from Boronagar village of Satair Union. The injured, Sanjay Banik Saha and Nepal Saha, were taken to hospital in critical condition.
According to police and local sources, the van was returning from a traditional religious ceremony in Qadirdi village when a truck approaching from the front ran it over, causing the deaths of two passengers at the scene. Boalmari Fire Service Station Officer Md. Royal Ahmed said his team rescued the bodies and took the injured to the hospital. The truck has been taken into police custody.
Inspector (Investigation) Ali Amin of Boalmari Police Station confirmed the accident, stating that the truck has been seized, but the driver is still at large. As the families of the deceased filed no complaints, the bodies have been handed over to their relatives.
