BNP May Announce Single Candidates in 200 Seats Anytime

BNP is currently focused on preparations for the 13th national parliamentary election. According to sources, the party may announce single candidates for at least 200 seats at any time during the first half of November. Although the list was initially planned to be published in October, it was postponed due to certain political reasons and circumstances.

Major (Retd.) Hafizuddin Ahmed, a member of BNP’s standing committee, told the media that the single candidate list was supposed to be finalized at the end of October, but that did not happen. The party has requested the list from allied parties, and it will take some time to finalize it.

Several party leaders alleged that a group is conspiring to inflame the situation over the July national charter and referendum issue. They claimed that, in addition to some political parties, certain influential figures within the government may be involved. However, BNP will not respond to any provocation and currently has no plans to announce any field-based protest programs.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the caretaker government and the consensus commission have created a crisis. He believes that the crisis can be overcome. He emphasized that the people of the country have never been defeated and will not accept defeat in the future. He stated that BNP will maintain maximum patience and hopes that the caretaker government will focus on organizing parliamentary elections.

Earlier in October, BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed indicated that single candidates would be approved for at least 200 seats. Due to the crisis created over the recommendations for implementing the July national charter, the announcement was delayed. It is expected that the single candidates may be announced at any time during the first half of this month. Additionally, after the standing committee meeting scheduled for next Monday, the announcement could come within a couple of days.
