The Army Headquarters has stated that the employment status of 15 army officers currently imprisoned for enforced disappearances and crimes against humanity during the Awami League government remains under legal procedure.
According to the Army Headquarters, the International Crimes Tribunal Act does not explicitly stipulate job termination upon being named in the charges. Clarification on this matter is still pending.
The Army Headquarters noted that the government has not yet issued clear instructions regarding the employment status of the accused officers.
At a press conference at the Army Headquarters on Wednesday, Brigadier General Md. Mustafizur Rahman, Director of the AG Branch of the PS Department, confirmed this information in response to journalists’ questions.
These 15 officers were taken to the International Crimes Tribunal on October 22 to face trial for their alleged involvement in enforced disappearances and killings during the July movement under the Awami League government.
When asked whether these officers are still holding their positions, he stated that the matter falls under a legal process and procedural framework.
